MIPIM Blog

Another Alliance year at MIPIM bites the dust and it seems that the bright light of Cannes don’t lose their lustre for many of the investors, developers, agents and advisers who attend. The developers and many of the local authorities seemed thinner on the ground than perhaps in days gone by, but those that were there clearly had things to say. For many, this still seemed quite an upbeat MIPIM even if numbers were still below peak and perhaps there were fewer big announcements.
After a cold start, which saw snow on the hills above Cannes, the weather and the consequent mood became much sunnier as the week wore on. Eddie Lister, Deputy Mayor of London was actively doing the rounds pushing London as a world city and to be fair, it did stand out as the investment location of choice in a world where uncertainty is rife. While other cities were looking for funds for dramatic and ambitious plans, many of which were very impressive, London was rather more in the business of showing people what is happening and what opportunities exist in such a well developed, secure and global economy. It does wonders for the UK and the many UK companies and cities represented.
The pace of events, meetings and chance encounters never ceases to deliver and it is these that perhaps provide the necessary ingredients for a successful trip, though it is often remarked that you travel 1000 miles south to meet people who work 500 metres from your own front door!
