Examination in Public (EiP) Report into the draft London Plan released

Tuesday the 3rd May finally saw the release of the Inspectorate’s Examination in Public (EiP) Report into the draft London Plan and with it, an updated indication of the plan’s final iteration when it is approved later this year.
A key feature of the extensive 344 page report is a commitment to housing delivery and shows a marked improvement in the prospects for this when compared with the initial submission document. Minimum housing targets for London are retained, a key achievement given the abolition of Regional Spatial Strategies elsewhere. Moreover, the targets are actually raised from current targets to a potential 37,000 units per annum.
Another point of note is that the report states that Affordable Housing should be set at a mix of 60% social rent and 40% intermediate and that the aspiration for affordable housing is 50% of new dwellings, rather than this level being set by policy.
